What You’ll Do
As an Assistant Controller, you’ll play a key leadership role within the Finance team, partnering closely with the Controller to ensure accurate, timely, and audit-ready financials. Your work will directly support scalable operations, strong internal controls, and informed decision-making in a fast-growing, multi-state organization.
You will:
Bring fresh ideas to the table—we’re all about innovation and continuous improvement in our accounting processes and controls.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support budgeting, reporting, and business insights.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead, mentor, and develop the Staff Accountant team through coaching, feedback, and review of reconciliations and workpapers.
Own and ensure timely, accurate month-end and year-end close, including preparation and review of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
Maintain ownership of key balance sheet accounts, ensuring all schedules reconcile to the general ledger and are fully supported.
Prepare and consolidate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Maintain audit-ready schedules, prepaid and accrual rollforwards, and standardized documentation at all times.
Support external and internal audits by managing requests and providing timely, accurate documentation.
Own sales tax registrations, filings, and ongoing compliance across multiple jurisdictions using TaxJar.
Monitor nexus thresholds, manage new state registrations, and ensure timely remittance.
Analyze financial results, trends, and variances to support forecasting, budgeting, and leadership decision-making.
Assist with financial presentations for executive leadership and the Board, as well as ad hoc projects as needed.

Must Haves
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience; high‑growth, SaaS, fintech, or benefits experience preferred.
Prior experience leading or reviewing work performed by junior accounting staff.
Strong working knowledge of GAAP, balance sheet management, and month‑end close processes.
Experience with sales tax compliance and multistate operations.
Proficiency with QuickBooks Advanced or similar accounting systems.
Exceptional attention to detail, organization skills, and documentation standards.
Nice to Have
Experience working in a SOC I, SOC II, or PCI‑regulated environment.
Advanced financial reporting, Power BI, or data‑driven analysis experience.
Experience supporting audits and working directly with external auditors.
